What is a Content Management System?
If your website is created with a Content Management System or CMS, then your website uses software and a database to manage and organize your website content. This allows you to be able to update your website content yourself, and not have to pay a web designer every time you want to make a few small changes to your website. You would edit your website in any browser by logging into your website’s admin area as a user with editing privileges.
There is still a learning process, because you would need to learn how to edit within the CMS. In most cases, if you have used Microsoft Word, then you won’t have too much trouble getting to know your website editor Once you learn how to use it you will find it fairly easy to maintain and have complete control over your own website.
You should consider using a Content Management System if:
- You have time to learn the CMS
- You have a lot of updates that could become costly to pay a website designer to do
- You have updates that need to be done quickly without waiting for someone else to do it
- You want to have a blog. Most blogs use a CMS so you can log into your blog’s admin area and create blog posts.
- You should not use a Content Management System if:
You do not have time to learn the CMS - You have no desire to do it yourself. Many busy business owners prefer to have someone else look after their website
- You do not have many updates
