Use Google’s Autocomplete to Find Keywords

googleUse Google’s Autocomplete to Find Keywords:

When looking for keywords or keyword phrases for your website, you can use Google’s Autocomplete as a tool to find keywords.

What is Google’s Autocomplete?

When you are using Google to search, you type in words for what you are searching for, and Google presents some suggestions to complete your search. This is Google’s Autocomplete. When Google provides some suggestions, these are usually words or phrases that are often used by people when searching for that keyword or phrase. For example, as a website designer, I could enter ‘website’ into Google’s search bar and see what Google suggests to complete the phrase. I could even go through the alphabet, ‘website a…”, “website b…” and see what Google suggests for each letter of the alphabet, to get even more suggestions.

Write down some of the suggestions that appeal to you and then use other keyword tools, such as Google Analytics or Google Adwords to see how popular your new keywords are.

The best keywords are ones that people would use to search for your website. However, you want to narrow down the search to your niche. For example, if I used ‘website’ as my main keyword, that would be too broad and I would be competing with too many other website designers. However, if I use ‘affordable website design”, it is something people would search for, contains the word ‘website’ and narrows it down to people who are looking for affordable website design. Remember to have one main keyword for each page on your website.

Make sure your keyword is in your page title, in your heading tags and in bold or italic a few times on the page. This will ensure your keywords on that page will stand out to the search engines.
