How to Name Your Business:
Your business name is very important. Here are some great tips to consider when choosing a name for your business:
- Choose a name that tells people what they will receive. i.e. Pat’s Dog Grooming. With this name, the customer will know that Pat is a dog groomer.
- Do not use your city in the name unless you are catering specifically to that geographical area. So, if you offer website design all over the world, you will not want Vancouver in your name, unless you plan on doing website design only in Vancouver.
- The name you choose will likely also be your domain name. Is that domain name available? Is it too long? Do the words look okay when all strung together?
- Some people will shorten the name of your business. I have had people shorten Treasure Web Designs to TWD. Make sure your business initials do not spell something unflattering.
- Pick a name that is catchy that people will remember.
- Stay away from cute puns and misspellings. Do not use 2 instead of TWO or Qwik instead of Quick.
- Do not put Inc. after the name of your business unless you are actually incorporated.
- Write down a few names and bounce them off a few friends or family.
- Choose a name that will appeal not to you, but to your customer.
- If you choose the wrong name change it quickly.
- Make sure the name is easy to spell and remember.
- Keep it simple.
- Do a search online for possible names you can use.
- Ask potential customers what they think of your name.
