Ten Ways to Improve Your Email Marketing

email marketingTen Ways to Improve Your Email Marketing:

When done correctly email marketing can be a great tool to help your business to grow. Not only is the content important but how you design your email can make a big difference as well. Here are some good tips to help you improve your email marketing and to help you send emails your subscribers will want to read.

  1. When people receive an email they want to know who the email is from and who to reply to. Send your email newsletters from a specific person rather than just the company. If the email is sent from a specific person it humanizes the email and makes it more personal. You should also keep it consistent and all emails should be from the same person. Make sure people know who to reply to as well.
  2. Make sure you only send to people who have opted in to your newsletter. You do not want to be thought of as sending spam. It is better to have a smaller list with just people who are interested in what you have to say, rather than a large list that no one reads.
  3. I recommend using Mail Chimp or Constant Contact to keep your list organized and to easily send out professional looking newsletters. These programs help you design a great looking template for your newsletter that is eye appealing and professional. Personally I use Mail Chimp, but check both out so you can decide which one works best for you.
  4. Mail Chimp and Constant Contact will also tell you how many people actually opened your email or if they just deleted it. If too many people are deleting your email without reading it you may want to change the subject line to something more interesting.
  5. From time to time, change your template slightly and see if more people open your emails. It is important to keep on with the testing.
  6. Most people check their email on their phones. So, make sure your template looks good on phones as well as computers. You can send yourself a test email and check it out on your phone. If possible, also check on both an iPhone and on an Android phone. Emails can look different on each.
  7. People are busy. Also we get a lot of email every day, so it is important to make your emails easy to read. Keep it short and use bullets to highlight the main points you want to get across.
  8. Avoid creating emails that aren’t spam but just look like it, such as using words like “FREE”, “Important Message” and “Hey (insert name here)”. Your subject lines should be brief, to the point, actionable and definitely not misleading. Trust and credibility is what buyers want before they buy.
  9. Include other ways people can connect with you in your emails. Just about everyone uses some social media that means having social sharing buttons are a must. They give your readers the opportunity to share your content on social networks like Twitter, and Facebook. Your social icons need to be visually appealing too. This will help you increase your brand awareness, and help to build your followers.
  10. Sign up for your competitors newsletters. Look at what they do for improvement and ideas. I am not suggesting you copy them, just use them for ideas.
